And Jesus Said, "I am the Bread of Life" - Satisfying Our Hunger

SERIES |

AND JESUS SAID...

SCRIPTURE |

John 6:25-40

SPEAKER |

Pastor Joseph Ardayfio

KEY THEME |

God may not always satisfy our cravings, but He will always satisfy our hunger + thirst if we come to Him and believe in His name.

1) Our natural and spiritual bodies were designed to be nourished but with the proper nutrients.

a.  The human body was designed so that the digestion of food would give our bodies the nutrients that it needs.  However, not all foods are equal in their nutritional value.

b.  Likewise, God designed our spiritual bodies to be nourished in this  life and hunger identifies something that needs to be satisfied or some type of deficiency.

c.  Hunger is not the main problem.  Often the problem is how we choose to quench the hunger. (naturally and physically)

2) When we are hungry, we must evaluate:  Where do we get food? /  What kind of food do we get?  /  Will it truly quench the hunger.

a. Many of us are blind as to where we can get food for our spiritual man, but often it is because we are only looking to ourselves for nourishment rather than looking to God

b. You must be careful what kind of food that you choose to go after.  Jesus says, “Don’t work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you.”

c. While we have to address our daily physical needs, our eternal hunger can only be quenched by the true bread of life – Jesus.

3) Our Response to Jesus’ statement is to come to Him with our full Heart and believe that He was sent from the Father as the Giver of Life.

a. Jesus promises that if we will come to Him, that He will not turn us away and he will satisfy our hunger.  He not only sustains life, but gives life.

b. It is not enough to just physically come to Jesus, but we must surrender ourselves to Him and believe on His name when we come.  Otherwise, it is like going to a restaurant when we are hungry and standing outside.

c. When we believe in the name of Jesus, He promises to quench the thirsting and longing in our souls.
