KEY THEME |

For those who labor according to God’s design, work has divine purpose, meaning, and significance.  We must therefore learn what it means to labor according to God's design.

1) While working, we must remember that there is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven.

a.  Jesus commended Mary for making the BETTER choice for that moment which was to invest every moment in the things that matter to God with an understanding of contrasting priorities. [Luke 10:38-42]

How can we apply this principle at work?

2) Find work responsibilities and vocations that matter to God and are in accordance with God’s purpose for your life.

a.  Your work, whether in secular or sacred spheres, paid or unpaid, almost always matters to God unless it directly contradicts his purposes.

b. Don’t choose responsibilities simply on the level of public notoriety, choose responsibilities that will help enhance your vocation and purpose.

3) Understand the contrasting priorities of work responsibilities in light of your vocation.

a. We will have contrasting priorities in different seasons of work.  At various times our priority will be: productive work, reflection, rest, and study.

4) Learn how to operate in various seasons of work with Godly stewardship.

a. Our stewardship at work requires faithfulness, care and integrity.  We must evaluate our choices regarding work.

i. Have I chosen to show faithfulness to God at work through diligent management of my responsibilities?

ii. Have I chosen to exercise Godly care with the execution of those responsibilities?

iii. Have I chosen to walk in Godly integrity in how I deal with people, resources, and time?

thoughts for further study

1)     Why is it important to make choices about how we invest every moment of time?

2)     What are some seasons in your life where you've had to have contrasting priorities?  How are Mary's priority of listening and Martha's priority of working important for various seasons?

3)     Why is it important to judge our stewardship on more that just what others are doing (co-workers, employees, bosses)?
