God has chosen to reveal himself through His Son and through the words of His Son that allow us to discern God’s will and his ways.
1) In the written word, God has graciously told us about Himself (who God is, what He values) and what He expects of us.
2) God’s Word is “Living” + “Active”
a. God’s Word is able to breathe life into us because 1) it is inspired by God; 2) it was written with a foreknowledge of the things that would occur throughout eternity; + 3) it was written from a place of superior-knowledge.
b. Living: Alive and able to speak to the situations that we face today
c. Active: Efficacious, or powerful, Sufficient and able to do what it needs to do
3) God’s Word teaches us to discern His will + ways
a. While God is speaking, there are many other voices also speaking. God’s Word finely cuts through all of the details to separate God’s voice from the voice of others.
4) How Do We Allow God to Speak to Us Through His Word?
a. Meditate Upon the Word of God – Psalms 1:1-2
b. Allow God’s Word to Direct Your Footsteps – Psalms 119:10
c. Learn How to Properly Handle God’s Word and Authenticate His Voice – 2 Timothy 2:15; John 10:27
