God expects us to take careful and responsible management of the talents and skills that He has entrusted to us.
1) Our ability to do good comes as a gift of God through his grace.
a. James 1:17 – “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights.” We must understand that God’s grace is not earned by us. Rather, God generously and lovingly gives us his grace. It is not to be taken for granted, but to be used for the Glory of God.
2) All of the gifts that we have are given by God to use for one another.
a. We can't assume that our talents and skills are for ourselves, nor hoard them to ourselves, but we must utilize our talents and skills in service to one another, to the best of our ability. Remember that a good steward takes careful and responsible management of another’s property.
3) As we discover and utilize our various gifts, we must remember to act as faithful stewards.
a. The talents and skills that we have been given belong to the Lord and we must use them as he directs.
4) In order to be faithful stewards, we must spend time asking God what He desires for the talents and skills that He has given to us.
a. We must not assume that our talents and skills are for ourselves, nor hoard them to ourselves, but we must utilize our talents and skills in service to one another, to the best of our ability. Remember that a good steward takes careful and responsible management of another’s property.
5) Stay in the Word.
a. As we spend time in God’s Word, we learn more about what he desires for our lives. This helps us to discern our individual talents and skills and how we can utilize them for his Glory.
