SERIES |

WALKING WITH GOD |  Knowing and Discerning the Voice and Will of God

SCRIPTURE |

Matthew 13:10-18

SPEAKER |

Pastor Joseph Ardayfio

KEY THEME |

Because of our fallen nature as human beings, we all suffer from an insensitivity to the leading and prompting of the Holy Spirit and we must allow our hearts and hearing to be sharpened through time + the experiences of life.

1)     It is possible to be insensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit such that we are ever hearing but never understanding; ever seeing but never perceiving.

2)    If we want to walk with the Lord, we will have to utilize the tools that he has provided us, but we must also sharpen our ability to translate hearing to understanding, seeing to perceiving.

3)    How do we sharpen our hearing?

a.  In order to walk with God, we must know who He is and what He desires for our lives

i. God is a Spirit, infinite, eternal, and unchangeable, in his being, wisdom, power, holiness, justice, goodness, and truth

ii. He desires for us to Live Worthy and to glorify Him in all that we say and do

b.  We must also know that he desires to reveal himself unto us and to provide for our needs

i. If we, as humans, though we are limited in understanding,  know how to give good gifts to our children, how much more does our Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him.

c.  We must realize that our sensitivity to God’s voice grows over time + experiences

d.  We must sensitize our hearts to the things that allow our hearts to get calloused and our hearing to become dull

i.  We must protect our heart from sin, unforgiveness, selfish motivations, pride, and lack of faith

thoughts for further study

1)      What differentiates hearing from understanding and seeing from perceiving?

2)      Why is it important to know who God is and what He desires for our lives?

3)      Are there areas of your life that have caused your heart to become calloused or your hearing to become dull.
