SERIES |

WALKING WITH GOD |  Knowing and Discerning the Voice and Will of God

SCRIPTURE |

1 Kings 22:1-18

SPEAKER |

Pastor Joseph Ardayfio

KEY THEME |

God has strategically placed Godly Counsel in our lives in order to help us discern the voice/will of God.  We need to recognize who they are and how to benefit from their counsel.

1)     A Godly counselor doesn’t always tell us what we want to hear, or what makes sense according to earthly wisdom, but they weigh the intentions of the heart against the will of God for a situation.

2)    We need Godly counsel because we don’t know it all.  Pride obscures the benefit of Godly counsel. (Proverbs 12:15)

3)    God strategically places counsel(ors) in our lives who help us in discerning the voice + will of God by directing+ confirming the instructions of the Lord.  They include:

a.  Holy Spirit

b.  Pastors/Leaders/Elders

c.  Prophetic Voice/Word of Knowledge/Interpretation of Tongues

d.  Parents

e.  Managers

f.   Peers/Friends

4)    How Do We Walk in Godly Counsel?

a.     Look for counsel from those who walk in Godly integrity.

b.     Appreciate counselors that care enough about you to share truthfully.

c.     Understand that the advice of counsel is not infallible.

d.     Give deference to those who you recognize that God has strategically placed in your life, but still authenticate the counsel against the Word of the Lord.

thoughts for further study

1)      How can you prepare your heart to be submitted to Godly counsel?  What are some of the difficulties that you have with submitting to Godly counsel?

2)      What people in your life give you the most counsel?  Do they walk in integrity and Godly wisdom?

3)      How do you handle a situation in which you believe the counsel that you are receiving is not in line with the Word of God.
