LIVING WISELY IN TURBULENT TIMES | A Study in James 1

SCRIPTURE |

James 1:19-21

SPEAKER |

Pastor Joseph Ardayfio

KEY THEME |

The solution to enduring through trials is not to get angry at God + others but to train ourselves to walk in God’s wisdom:  quick to listen, slow to speak + slow to get angry.

3 ways to train yourself to endure trials

1)    Pace yourself while enduring trials. (James 1:19-20)

a.  We need to be quick to listen + obey the wisdom that God gives us.

b.  In dealing with other individuals, we should listen to what is being before trying to prove our point.

c.  We need to be slow to speak rashly and without an understanding.

d.  We need to be slow towards developing anger + hostility towards God because of the intensity or perceived unfairness of our trials.

e.  We need to be slow to develop anger towards others because it can cause us to deviate or accelerate from God’s plan.

2)    Remove Stumbling Blocks. (James 1:21)

a.  Stumbling blocks entice + distract you.

b.  You have to train yourself to remove stumbling blocks when they appear + not wait until it is too late.

3)    Be Transformed. (James 1:21)

a.  You must train yourself to allow the word of God to transform your thoughts, your actions, your motivations, and your life.

b.  The enemy wants to deceive you into thinking that merely hearing the Word, without action, transforms you.

thoughts for further study

1)     How has anger at God and at others caused you to deviate or accelerate the pace that God is setting?
